BRCA2 DNA repair associated
BRCA2, like BRCA1, helps repair broken DNA. Rare harmful changes in it raise the risk of breast, ovarian and some other cancers, and are found by clinical genetic testing. The common variants on this page are not those rare changes.
Both help repair DNA, and harmful changes in either raise cancer risk. They are different genes, and the cancers they are most linked to differ somewhat.
No. The common variants here shift risk only a little; the high-risk BRCA2 changes are rare and found by clinical testing.

A gene page gathers published research; it is not a test result and not medical advice. If a gene matters to your health, talk to a doctor or a genetic counsellor.
