What the study found

Who was studied 434,794 European ancestry female individuals.

The effect Each copy of the A allele shifted the measure 0.0264 lower (95% confidence interval 0.023-0.03); p = 4 × 10−44.

How common The A allele had a frequency of about 48% in the people studied.

Where it sits Chromosome 3, band 3p21.31 — between genes, 0.8 kb from ACTL11P.

What each result means

A/A Two copies of the version the research linked to Body mass index. That is the strongest link of the three results. A link in a study is not a diagnosis.
A/T One copy of the version the research linked to Body mass index. That is a smaller link than two copies.
T/T No copy of the version the research linked to Body mass index. This is the starting point the study compared everyone against.

The genetic architecture of fibromyalgia across 2.5 million individuals

Fibromyalgia is a common, debilitating chronic pain syndrome whose cause has been poorly understood. This multi-ancestry meta-analysis covers 2,563,755 people from 11 cohorts — 54,629 with fibromyalgia and 2,509,126 without — and finds 26 risk loci. The strongest association is a coding variant in HTT, the gene that causes Huntington's disease; gene prioritisation also points to the HTT regulator GPR52 and to genes with neural roles (DCC, DRD2/NCAM1, MDGA2, CELF4). Heritability was enriched exclusively in brain tissues and neural cell types, and fibromyalgia correlated genetically above 0.7 with low back pain, post-traumatic stress disorder and irritable bowel syndrome. Despite the large difference in prevalence between the sexes, the genetic architecture was nearly identical in males and females. The authors read this as genetic evidence that fibromyalgia is a disorder of the central nervous system. Three of the study's positions are on this site under other traits: rs9862795 (near CAMKV), rs809955 (MAML3) and rs11167957 (PPP2R2B). PMID:42521817.

Questions about rs9862795

What is rs9862795?

rs9862795 is a single position in the genome, in or near the near CAMKV gene. Published research associates it with body mass index. A single variant does not decide an outcome — it shifts a probability, and for most common variants the shift is small.

What conditions is rs9862795 linked to?

On MyGeneLog this position is linked to Waist-to-Hip Ratio (Body Fat Distribution), Obesity and Body Weight. The research behind each link, and its sources, are set out on that condition page.

Does having rs9862795 mean I will get this?

No. Common variants like this one move a probability slightly and, on their own, rarely decide anything about one person. Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and health decisions should be made with a clinician who can see your whole picture.

Where does the information about rs9862795 come from?

GWAS Catalog, Hum Mol Genet 2018, PMID:30239722. Every variant on MyGeneLog comes from public primary sources and is published with its citation and the date it was checked.
