What the study found

Who was studied 1,292,196 European ancestry individuals.

The effect The reported allele is A; the catalogue records no effect size ; p = 2 × 10−9.

How common The A allele had a frequency of about 56% in the people studied.

What each result means

A/A Two copies of the version the research linked to Fibromyalgia. That is the strongest link of the three results. A link in a study is not a diagnosis.
A/G One copy of the version the research linked to Fibromyalgia. That is a smaller link than two copies.
G/G No copy of the version the research linked to Fibromyalgia. This is the starting point the study compared everyone against.

Fibromyalgia shares much of its genetics with depression and PTSD

Fibromyalgia, a chronic pain syndrome, has long been hard to explain. A genome-wide study combining 85,139 cases and 1,642,433 controls across European, African and Latin American ancestry found 10 loci in European-ancestry participants, 12 across ancestries and 45 in a multi-trait analysis with pain, and strong genetic correlations with chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression, alongside a moderate negative one with physical activity. Its analyses point to neuronal mechanisms. 16 of its positions already have pages here, four of them on the fibromyalgia page. PMID:42521668.

Questions about rs2734833

What is rs2734833?

rs2734833 is a single position in the genome, in or near the DRD2 gene. Published research associates it with fibromyalgia. A single variant does not decide an outcome — it shifts a probability, and for most common variants the shift is small.

What conditions is rs2734833 linked to?

On MyGeneLog this position is linked to Fibromyalgia. The research behind each link, and its sources, are set out on that condition page.

Does having rs2734833 mean I will get this?

No. Common variants like this one move a probability slightly and, on their own, rarely decide anything about one person. Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and health decisions should be made with a clinician who can see your whole picture.

Where does the information about rs2734833 come from?

GWAS Catalog, Nature medicine 2026, PMID:42521817. Every variant on MyGeneLog comes from public primary sources and is published with its citation and the date it was checked.
