Where this position leads
Condition: C-Reactive Protein Levels
Solid lines are connections this site curates. Dashed lines mean the two ends share a research paper — worth knowing, and not a claim that one explains the other.
What the study found
Who was studied 63,678 European ancestry individuals 1,792 Erasmus Rucphen individuals, 715 Orcadian individuals; replicated in 16,540 European ancestry individuals.

What this is ClinVar's aggregate record for this position (as of its 2026-10-19 release), not a result about you. A classification describes the variant against the condition named, as laboratories submitted it. Whether a person carries this variant, and what that would mean for them, is a question for a clinical test and a genetic counsellor.

Itching in Late Pregnancy: 26 Genetic Signals Point to Bile Acids and Cholesterol
Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy causes intense itching and raised bile acids in 0.2-2% of pregnancies. A genome-wide study of 4,738 women who had it and 436,834 who did not found 26 genetic signals, 10 of them new, pointing to how the liver makes bile acids and handles cholesterol and other fats. It also found genetics shared with pancreatitis. Four of the positions have pages here: rs4148211 in ABCG8, rs6733156 in ABCB11, rs58238559 in ABCB4 and rs1800961 in HNF4A.
rs1800961 is a single position in the genome, in or near the HNF4A gene. Published research associates it with c-reactive protein levels. A single variant does not decide an outcome — it shifts a probability, and for most common variants the shift is small.
On MyGeneLog this position is linked to C-Reactive Protein Levels. The research behind each link, and its sources, are set out on that condition page.
Subjects that appear in the title or abstract of the same papers as this rsID include blood sugar and insulin (6 papers), cholesterol and blood fats (1 papers), infection and immunity (1 papers). A shared paper means somebody wrote about the two together; it is not a claim that this position explains the topic.
No. Common variants like this one move a probability slightly and, on their own, rarely decide anything about one person. Nothing on this page is a diagnosis, and health decisions should be made with a clinician who can see your whole picture.
