You do not need one to read this site, to download the app, or to call the API — all of that stays open with no key and no signup. An account exists for one thing today: an API key with a higher rate limit than the anonymous one.
We email you a link to confirm the address. Until you click it the account can do nothing. We do not send you anything else unless you ask — the newsletter is a separate box to tick, and it needs no account at all.
