Transthyretin normally travels as four pieces held together. When they come apart, they clump into amyloid in the heart. Tafamidis holds the pieces together, and it works whether the problem came from your genes or from age.
Tafamidis (Vyndaqel, Vyndamax) is a stabiliser: it holds the four pieces of transthyretin together so they cannot fall apart and turn into amyloid. It is a pill taken once a day, approved in the US since 2019 for the heart form of ATTR, whether hereditary or wild-type, so your genotype does not decide whether you can take it. In its main trial of 441 patients over 30 months, fewer people died or were admitted to hospital for their heart than on placebo. Whether to take it is decided with a specialist, and nothing here is a reason to start, stop or change a medicine.

These are the positions in your own file that carry the genes above. Not every gene in a guideline is one we report — where that is the case the gene appears above without a variant here, and the note says so.

No. Its US label covers the heart form of ATTR whether it is hereditary or wild-type, the kind that comes with age. A genetic test still matters, because a variant means your relatives can be tested.
In its main trial, 441 patients were followed for 30 months. Fewer people on tafamidis died or were admitted to hospital for their heart than on placebo. Whether to take it is decided with a specialist; nothing here is a reason to start, stop or change a medicine.
